About Dominique's artwork
Collage is an art form which is made up of overlapping
pieces of material, such as photographs, fabric, coloured
and textured paper and other types of mixed media. The
process focuses on the act of selecting materials and
cutting them into the desired shape, before arranging them
and pasting them onto the chosen surface.
Unlike other art forms that may rely on proficient technical
skills which may require more time to master, such as
painting and sculpture, the artistic expertise of collage lies
in the choosing, arranging and affixing. As such, the term
‘collage’ comes comes from the French term coller, meaning ‘to
glue’.
A World De-Constructed
One of the best parts of creating art is the endless
possibility for exploration. With collage, there’s no limit on
materials or approaches you use in image-making. While
this might seem overwhelming, I look at it from another
perspective: collage frees me up from the “rules” of
drawing or painting and allows you to explore and express
my unique artistic language of how to interpret the world
around me.
